DETROIT (Dec. 2, 2024)---Mobility innovation startup Grounded today announced the launch of the Grounded T1, a smart all-electric standing-room trailer powered entirely by electric tricycle.
Grounded will begin producing its first T1s in Spring 2025, and is currently taking pre-orders. The company partnered with Civilized Cycles to create a first-of-its-kind smart trailer and trike system.
“Demand for the outdoors continues to increase, and the T1 offers a compelling mix of comfort, sustainability, and flexibility,” said Grounded CEO Sam Shapiro. “By combining Civilized Cycles’ platform with our fast-track approach to interior builds, we’re able to quickly launch a compact, beautiful adventure system to meet the moment. Fully integrated electronics between the electric trike and the RV interior, managed through the Grounded+ app, provide a smart experience and give a detailed view of the trike range, how much energy each appliance is using and the ability to remotely control all aspects of the living space.”
Key Features of the T1
The T1 is built on Civilized Cycles’ Semi-Trike platform, a bicycle-class light electric vehicle that combines the cargo capacity of a van and the carbon footprint of an e-bike. The current generation of the Semi-Trike offers a patented self-adjusting air suspension that allows for superior safety, total payload, speed and driver comfort.
The base T1 includes Starlink for high speed internet anywhere you go, storage space, a lounge/seating area that quickly converts to a full bed, and kitchenette, with options for a dry-flush toilet and exterior shower.
Both the Semi-Trike and living systems of the T1 are fully powered by electricity, and aided in part by 500-Watt solar capacity.
The Grounded+ App connects the company’s proprietary software to all of the electronics used, allowing owners to view their own energy usage patterns and optimization possibilities, turn appliances on and off remotely, see real-time battery, range and water levels, and diagnose potential issues.
The interior of the T1 is modern, durable, and bright, and inspired by contemporary Nordic outdoor gear.
